Kaspersky Antivirus 2017 Review
Kaspersky Antivirus 2017 offers essential protection from all the latest threats including viruses, malware, spyware, rootkits, and much more. It seamlessly integrates into your system and offers an unprecedented level of protection without being overly obtrusive. By using intelligent scanning, Kaspersky is able to proactively protect you from emerging threats while working in the background and not compromising performance, which is what any user should look for from their antivirus software.
Kaspersky offers a nice set of pricing options should you need protection for more than 1 PC. Kaspersky includes many features usually only found in more comprehensive security suites for a reasonable price. The following prices are for 1 year subscriptions which offer automatic virus updates throughout the subscription term. Kaspersky also offers 2 and 3 year subscriptions for a discount. Their 3 PC product is the best deal.
1 Year Protection Subscription:
|1 PC||3 PCs||5 PCs||10 PCs|
You can easily download Kaspersky Antivirus 2017 from their website (www.kaspersky.com). They also offer a boxed version, however, it only comes with the 3 license option and 1 year subscription. If you like having a physical CD which you can hold and install again later without saving a downloaded file, then purchase the boxed version. We also like that the boxed version is the same price as the download version. Kaspersky also offers a 14-day "no questions asked" money back guarantee should be unsatisfied with the product. While we don't think you'll be unsatisfied with Kaspersky, this is a nice guarantee and something you usually don't see from antivirus companies.
Kaspersky is very comprehensive for stand-alone antivirus software. It offers a great number of features. Kaspersky offers a high level of advanced protection including proactive detection of unknown malware. It looks for malicious patterns of activity and alerts the user quickly while blocking these dangerous actions before they can cause any harm. Kaspersky offers a unique "Hybrid Protection" feature. It uses the power of the cloud and many users being connected to Kaspersky's security network to detect and quickly stop emerging threats (See the "Protection Level" section below for more info).
One great feature is the vulnerability scanner which will scan programs already installed on your system for exposure to threats and vulnerable settings. Kaspersky integrates with Windows so you can right-click on any file and scan the file for malware. If malware is found, Kaspersky's File Advisor will report the file to Kaspersky's security network to make sure this malware can be detected by their software and that other users detect this threat as well. Kaspersky also instantly checks websites and links to see if they are known to be unsafe.
Kaspersky offers a neat feature, a virtual keyboard. It's an on-screen keyboard that can be used to enter private data such as credit card numbers and passwords with a mouse. This prevents the data you enter from being tracked by keyloggers or identity thieves.
Smart updates are a key feature of Kaspersky Antivirus 2017. By offering small, frequent updates, very little CPU and network resources are used so your PC use remains uninterrupted. Kaspersky also offers a gamer mode, which blocks pop-ups and barely uses your system resources for scans to give you they best gaming experience.
Kaspersky's System Watcher feature will record recent changes to your system and allow you to roll back harmful changes caused by malware. It works like Microsoft's System Restore feature included in its Windows operating system.
If you have trouble installing Kaspersky on an infected PC, the install program will download their proprietary scanning tool to scan and eliminate all threats prior to installation. You can also create a bootable CD or USB flash drive "Rescue Disk" which includes a set of tools for efficiently detecting and eliminating serious infections. We highly recommend creating a rescue disk in case some particularly serious malware finds its way into your computer and you can't even boot your computer's operating system. Kaspersky is also optimized for netbooks and laptops, and allows you to disable scanning while on battery power.

Ease of Use
Kaspersky is quick to install and setup is automatic. The setup will pick secure settings by default so the novice user doesn't have to worry about configuring Kaspersky correctly. It has a fresh, new interface that is very simple to navigate and easy to understand. The user interface is responsive and most operations can be performed with a single click. The more advanced user will appreciate the amount of settings that can be customized. Kaspersky also offers easy-to-read, detailed reports on past scans, malware detected, and actions taken.
The protection status is prominently displayed in the center screen showing a green check when everything is good, a yellow exclamation point when something needs attention, and a red "X" when a problem or threat is found. You can quickly click on the security status and fix the problem found. For Windows Vista and 7, a desktop gadget is also offered that allows you to see the protection status with a quick glance at your desktop.
Kaspersky offers a comprehensive level of protection against all types of malware, spyware, viruses, and identity attacks. Much of the malware today finds its way into your computer without you even knowing. You could be opening an email or visiting a website you've been to many times before. You might think you didn't do anything wrong but today's malware can be very sophisticated. Some forms of malware may even look like legitimate antivirus or internet security programs!
Potential threats are monitored in real-time and reacted to quickly. A unique feature is Kaspersky's "Cloud Protection Technology" which they also call "Hybrid Protection". This is feature which you can opt out of, but you are much more secure participating in this protection feature. The way it works is, when a user participating in the cloud network scans their PC and discovers an unknown 0-day threat, that threat signature is reported to the cloud security network immediately. There, the Kaspersky software and engineers analyze the threat 24/7 and quickly update their detection signatures. They then push this new update to Kaspersky user's PCs automatically, stopping potentially serious threats before they can become big problems.
Kaspersky will proactively scan your PC for threats that do not exist in the antivirus database and also scans your emails, web traffic, and IMs. It will also scan for rootkits, which can be very hard to detect, and provides anti-phishing defense against tricky phishing attacks.
Kaspersky receives some of the highest scores from AV Test (www.av-test.org) and AV Comparatives (www.av-comparatives.org) independent real world antivirus protection tests. These are two very respected, independent antivirus test groups. Kaspersky detected all threats and did a spectacular job repairing damages caused by these threats. AV Test indicated that Kaspersky's protection against 0-day threats as well as protection and prevention against widespread threats is the best. Kaspersky received 100% score in these areas. Kaspersky also received a score of 99% in removal of this malware, which is the best out of any antivirus software tested.
Kaspersky also received an ADVANCED+ rating, their highest rating, from AV Comparatives for their effectiveness in everyday real world protection and threat removal. During AV Comparatives testing only 13 of 1898 threats were not detected giving Kaspersky a great detection rating. We highly recommend Kaspersky because of its level of protection and its ability to repair your system after it has been damaged by malware threats.

AV Comparatives Real-World Protection Test Rating:
Kaspersky performs extremely well at detecting and removing threats to your system while using very little system resources. Kaspersky uses its unique iChecker and iSwift intelligent scanning technologies to only scan files that have been opened or modified since the previous scan. Behind-the-scenes scans are reduced when you're placing demands on your PC such as when playing games, watching movies, or encoding Mp3s.
It still makes sense to set Kaspersky to perform full systems scans in the early morning hours when your computer is most likely not in use. Kaspersky receives very high ratings for performance which is remarkable given its ability to also detect and repair your system. Kaspersky also had ZERO false detections of malware and ZERO false warnings or blockings of certain actions, which is remarkable.

Kaspersky has designed their software to be very fast and simple to use. It is easy to navigate and runs silently in the background. However, there may be times when you need additional support so its nice to know that Kaspersky has North American based technical support available via phone (8AM-9PM EST), email (24/7), and live chat (9AM-9PM EST). Kaspersky also has an extensive online knowledge base, user forum, video tutorials, and a suite of virus removal tools and information about some well known, hard to remove, viruses. They also offer a rescue disk image to create your own rescue boot CD or USB flash drive, and removal instructions for well known rogue security software. Their support staff is knowledgeable about their products and friendly.

|Kaspersky does not inform you that an update is required.Instead they send red alerts stating that downloads were not successful, followed by cryptic blocks that prevent updates. , The download does not go smoothly so Tech support in the Philippines provides unhelpful help. Kaspersky tacks on undesired extras so watch the total on your bill . I ended up with a useless disc for $9.95|

|Their customer service is in the Philippines. They may be knowledgeable about the product, but not the workings of their company. Orders ARE charged sales tax and it's next to impossible to find anyone who will even credit the sales tax. They have no brick and mortars in the US to my knowledge. Be prepared to shell out an extra 7-10% more if you live in the US and order it online.|
